Prof. Clarence Augustus Manning Clarence Augustus Manning (born 1893) - thorough commentator, interpreter, and a loving translator of Shevchenko’s work. He worked for 43 years at the Columbia University in New York. In 1945 Clarence A. Manning published a book of his renditions of the Ukrainian poet, "Taras Shevchenko. The Poet of Ukraine. Selected Poems". In 1952 Manning became associate professor of Slavic languages. He retired in 1958, but continued publishing.
